Designing For Passive Survivability
Wednesday, March 30, 2016, 5:30-7:30 pm
Integral Group, 523 West Sixth St., Los Angeles,CA

Join us as we discuss how passive survivability in building design is vitally important to our planet as we experience the devastating effects of climate change. Passive buildings are capable of maintaining acceptable thermal comfort conditions without the need for mechanical cooling and heating. As extreme climate events and natural disasters become more common, buildings must be a habitable refuge for citizens when there is no power available for mechanical cooling and heating. Buildings designed for passive survivability also benefit from radically low energy consumption, making them ideal to achieve net positive energy operation.
Speakers:
John Andary, Principal, Integral Group.
John is a Mechanical Engineer and Principal at Integral Group where he brings over 30 years of energy-focused consulting experience to the firm.
John’s work focuses on passive and climate-based design solutions to improve occupant health, thermal comfort and energy efficiency in the built environment. Mr. Andary has served as Principal In Charge on numerous LEED Platinum and Net Zero Energy projects. Notably, John led the MEP Engineering and Energy Consulting teams for the Research Support Facility project at the NREL. This 360,000 square foot facility is the largest measured and verified Net Zero Energy building in North America.

Neil Bulger, Associate Principal, Integral Group
Neil leads the building performance modeling team for Integral Group’s West coast offices. Neil provides technical assistance and feedback to building designers on energy, thermal comfort and daylighting strategies.
Neil has extensive experience using energy modeling software and studying both building physics and graphic communications. Neil specialized in building science and HVAC with the aim to reduce building energy use towards a net-zero built environment.
